Last Day For The Year

Hi Everyone!

Today is the last day of Enrich for 2012. I have only got 1 year left. It has gone very quick. I put the vet photos onto a memory stick so I can put them on my blog.

My favourite part of the year was when I adopted my animal. By the way it came in the mail last week! I got a tote bag, 2 finger puppets, a cd about tigers, a giant sticker, a magizine and two certificates. I adopted two tiger cubs called Kashin and Burma.

Today Hannah and I designed a tiger enclosure. We drew it, then we printed some images of tigers and stuck them on and finally we coloured it in! It looks really cool!

Today since it was the last day Katie, Darryn and Alana cooked sausages that were really nice :) We also played All Or Nothing again ( See a later post on how to play )

I am writing the last email for Enrich 2012 with India so I have to go and write it.

See you next year! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Kia Ora,

Today at Passion Time Hannah, Hannah and I rung Waikiwi Vets to see if we could go down to see what a vet does for a day. Hannah H's mum is coming with us because she works across the road so she can just come and get us.

We are going next Week at 10.30 and Hannah's mum will pick us up at 10.20! We are so excited. We are taking cameras and some paper to write down what they do. We are still adopting animals in our own time. I am also excited about that too. I will post some pictures next week. We are staying for an hour. I can't wait!

Today we are also going to dissect an eyebal. Fun!

See you next week,

Madison:)

A Busy Day

Aloha,

Today has been very fun. It has also been very warm. First we started with Passion time and Environment Projects. As usual Hannah, Hannah and I were doing our adopting animal project. We are still doing our chores and yesterday I did a poop scoop for my 11 month dog Sam. You don't really want to know how much there was but I got $5 for doing it.

We are deciding that we will do this project at home but adopting the animals at Enrich. We decided that because we can't do chores for our Mum and Dads at Enrich.

I've got to do the end of day email now so... Bye For Now!

Waihopai River Restoration.

Hello!
Today we had our Waihopai River Restoration. We spent over a term to orginise it but we did it! The Southland Times were there, Watties suppled juice, Enrich was there to help and so was Environment Southland.

There were over 250 plants and over 30 people to help plant them. It was really fun but now I'm a bit dizzy.

It was quite windy but it was sunny. Dad came along to help and we had to be there at 8.30 am!
My eyes are so sore and my head is burning.

It was a long day but it all turned out alright.
Hannah, Hannah, Kate and I had to wear high vision vests!

You'll hear from me next week!

Coconut Ice

Hi,
Today Hannah, Hannah and I made another batch of Coconut Ice. Today we made some changes. We added a pinch of salt and changed the colour to Pink and White. Hannah’s Mum didn’t come in today so we thourght we could make it ourself. Well we were wrong! The was icing sugar everywhere! And the mixure looks like porridge! It’s my Aunt’s Birthday and I was going to give her my coconut ice but I don’t thinks she wants hard porridge!

I also played on OE Cake today, which is a scince game. It mixed fuel, gas, fire, hot and cold. See you later Madison

Coconut Ice

Hi There!

Today in 15mins we will be making Coconut Ice! This is because for our passion time we are raising money to help save some of the most endangered animals in the world! These are the Sea Turtle, Prezawalski Horse and the Amur Leopard!

In my group is Hannah C, Hannah H and me! We are really excited! We will be selling Coconut Ice outside Hannah C's Mum's work (Headquarters). We hope to raise at least $75 or $150. We are doing it on  the WWF website. Hannah H's Mum is coming to help!

This batch of coconut ice is just a practice. So we might be selling it in 3 weeks.

Week 8

Hi there!

I had another busy day at Enrich today! We played chess, a Wilson game and watched a movie. But the movie was really sad because it was about the environment and how people don’t care for the earth and clean water because we have taps and fresh clean water comes out of taps. I also felt really sad because turtles are nearly extinct! So I decided to change my Passion Time animal to the Sea Turtle.

Do not pollute. And when you go to the supermarket take a fabric bag do not buy a plastic bag because the earth will be full of slimy and sloppy green stuff. And one of the most polluted rivers in the world is in New Zealand! Keep New Zealand clean and green ( like it is known to be all around the world.)

I also made some origami hearts for my Mum and Sister!

Hear from you next week!

Hannah, Hannah, Kate and I we are doing the Waihopai River Restoration Project ( W.R.R.P) For that we are organizing a planting day down on the Waihopai River. This makes less mud fall into the river.

Next I made a parachute for an egg. I went with Hannah C. We used a paper cup, 3 balloons, 2 plastic bags, 4 bits of string, Newspaper and 1 egg! We had design a parachute that went slowly and that the egg didn't break. Hannah and I came 2nd with 1. 29 seconds! The winners were Anna and India with 1.32 seconds!

So Far At Enrich

Hi there!

It is Madison here. Today I am going to talk about my very busy day at Enrich. We started off with designing a mural for Southland. Because there is so many yucky old boring plain walls around Southland. We went in groups for this, I went with Anna, Hannah and Mia. We did an iconic mural about Kiwiana and things in Southland. Then Mia came up with a slogan: We've got the Paua. If you don't know what a Paua is then, a Paua is a type of sea food known for in New Zealand.

Next we had a building challenge. We had to build a launching pad for a Shuttlecock. It was really fun. We only had 20mins to create it.

Finally we had Anastazia from Environment Southland come and talk to us about the Environment and what we can do to help the environment.

Well thats all from me today

Bonjour everyone!

Today is the first day of Term 3. The year is nearly done. Today I tried Claude Monet Art. Claude Monet is a famous French artist (That is why I said Bonjour plus I love France.)  Anyway Claude Monet painted a lot of different things but his technic was impressions. Impressions is when it is all colours and you don't wash your paint brush. It is really fun and relaxing. We tried to do lilly Pads just like Claude's mine turned out really good. I am really happy with it! I have got to go now!

Hi there!

WOW!! Today is the last day of term 2! It has gone so fast. This morning Darryn got us to do the Self Assessment. The Self Assessment is the year so far in a reflection. There was 10 questions that we had to answer. They were like; What I am most proud of, I wish I could, I can explain and other things like that.

Some of the questions were quite hard and you had to think about what they meant. We had to write truthful things that we would try and do.

I will see you later

Custom Glitter Text

Hi,

This morning I  carried on with the Tapa Cloth that I started from last week. I finished scrunching it up to make it nice and soft like a cloth. Then once it was soft I dyed it with brown dye.  On my Tapa Cloth there is a bird print and a turtle! To make a cloth you need:

Some paper
A vivid
A pencil
A rubber (If needed)
And some brown dye.

To make a cloth you  need to decide on what pattern you like. But your pattern has to be a chess pattern, so if you don't understand it means one turtle, then a flower then a turtle then a flower and so on. After that you fold your paper in squares then unfold it. Once you complete that you then draw on your pattern. Next, go over it with vivid. After you finish that, scrunch it up until it becomes like cloth. (I know it sounds impossible but it works!) Finally, dye it with brown dye. Leave it to dry and it will look perfect!!

It is really fun but it hurts your hands. For your pattern try and do something pacifica like turtles, flowers, butterflies or shells. Tapa cloths come from Samoa!!

That is mine! It has not dried yet!

Hear from you later Madison:)

Hi There!

Today at talent development we did more green screening (YAY)!! For our greening screening we could use the photos we took at Queens Park last week. Or we could use non copyright images off Google. I did both. Today I made 3 alpha photos. One I was being a Tree Fairy, and my two other ones were with one of my favourite breeds of dogs (Newfoundland). From one of my earlier posts you can see how to do a manipulated image. Later on today we will be  doing art!!

See you later:)

Hi again,

I have just come back from Queens Park. You may wonder why we were at Queens Park, but the reason is that we went there for photography Talent Development! Katie thought that it would be good because of the autum leaf scene. My Mum came and helped us. We saw lots of cool ideas for static and manipulated images! For my manipulated image I took a photo of the bird statue around the water fountain. Then I green screened myself into it, but I made the background a sunset!! It was really fun today.

See you later!

Hi again,

Today we had talent development. For talent development today we had to create a manipulated image. Katie set up a green screen so we could take a photo of ourself. My first one did not turn out well, so after I decided to start again - I used photo both. I did not use the green screen I just used a plain yellow wall. It still worked out though. To create a manipulated image, follow these steps.

1.  Choose a image off google as your background.
2.  Take a photo of your self. You can use a green screen or a plain coloured wall. Just make sure you are not wearing the same colour of the wall.
3.  Import the photo into I-photo.  Edit it if you need to.
4.  Open the photo of yourself in Keynote, then alpha the background out.
5.  Put your background image onto your screen, then you can move your photo around to make it look like you are right there!
6.  Add everything else you want to use on your picture.
7.  Have fun making it!

If you have followed the steps right then it should turn out like this.

Thanks for reading!!!

Hi again,

Today Enrich went on a field trip to the Museum. At the Museum we were lucky enough to have the chance to see the W.O.W Art ( W.O.W means World Of Wearable.) Some were made of wood, metal, flax,  suitcases and even real budgies!!!! My favourite was the Harakeke which means in Maori is Major Flax. There was some screens that had interviews of the designers and the outfit on a person. Some of the other ones were: Into The Blue, Bird Mother, The Lady Of Wood and The Fire Bird. It was really enjoyable you can see it in the Southland Museum from 6th of April to the 17th of June.

Last Day of Term 1/ Learning wheel

Hi,

Today is the last day of Enrich for Term 1! It has gone so fast. I have really enjoyed Enrich this term because I have made so many new friends!

If you look on the right hand side of the screen you'll probably see a sheet. Well today we had to use that sheet and write about our new learning and feelings that we had this term. It's called a Learning Wheel.

Hear from you term 2,

Madison:)

Hi Madison.

You have such a positive, bubbly outlook on everything you do. You are a great role model to our new and younger students in the way you apply yourself to every task or activity that we ask of you. It was great to see your enthusiasm for photography on Tuesday! Your photograph of the buildings opposite Enrich, framed by our fence was well thought out, and shows that you are thinking outside the square! Keep up the great work Madison. Katie.

Talent Development

Hi,

Today I went to talent development. For my talent development I am doing photography. Today for photography we went outside and took photos around the street. We all had to have a theme. I didn't have a theme I just took photos and made a theme for them. Once we had taking them we uploaded them to Iphoto and
edited them. We then sent them to Katie. For my photo I straightened it, made the colors stand out and cropped it. ( Click the photo to make it bigger)

Today at Enrich.

Hi,

Wow!! It has been a busy little day. We have started our talent developments. Talent Developments are subject areas that you are good at and want to improve on. The choices for this term were Maths, Photography and Drama. I have chosen Photography. For Photography we are going to take static images or images that we are going to edit. Today we thought about what kind of images we would take and where we would take them. For mine I would like to do a Kiwiana theme and take the photos at Oreti Beach.

Thanks for reading!

Bio Poem

Hi,

Today I learnt how to make a Bio Poem. We read Rosa Parks' Bio Poem. Rosa was a Lady who believed that slaving should be stopped between black and white people. She escaped with children who were being used as slaves and loved them all. Here is my Bio poem.
You can click on it to make it bigger.

It has been busy today.
